Srinagar: People in the city were deprived of newspapers and TV network today as power service was cut and public restricted from moving out during the encounter between two holed up LeT miliants and security forces.The authorities had enforced a power cut in Lal Chowk area since yesterday as a precautionary measure. Newspapers were printed but could not be distributed as civilian movement was restricted from Regal Chowk, management of newspapers said.
As part of operational strategy, police and CRPF had cordoned off Lal Chowk in the morning and did not allow civilians outdoors.
The cordon was extended to Hari Singh High Street, Jehangir Chowk, tourist reception centre and Maulana Azad Road as all shops and business establishments in these areas remained closed for the second successive day.
Vendors of national newspapers could not distribute the papers as shops were closed.
Security forces stormed a hotel in Lal Chowk killing two holed up LeT terrorists in a 22-hour operation. A policeman and a civilian had also died during the encounter.
